The Health Benefits of Alfalfa Sprouts

When making a salad or sandwich, alfalfa sprouts are probably not the first thing that comes to your mind to add, but it’s time to change that. Here is a list of all the health benefits of alfalfa sprouts.

High in nutritional value

Alfalfa sprouts are a great source of vitamin C, folic acid, vitamin K. In the cup of alfalfa sprouts have five percent vitamin C, 13 percent vitamin K, and only about 8 calories. In addition, they also contain protein and dietary fiber.

Can help reduce cholesterol

Previous studies have shown that consuming alfalfa sprouts can improve cardiovascular health. One study, which looked at the effect of alfalfa on people with high blood cholesterol, found that taking alfalfa three times a day could reduce LDL cholesterol (known as “bad” cholesterol). High levels of LDL cholesterol can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Side Effects

Because freshly-washed alpha-alpha sprouts may contain various bacteria, some are pathogens – they are less recommended for people with a weak immune system. Alfalfa is more likely to have bacteria such as salmonella and ulcers, which can lead to food poisoning and may endanger populations such as pregnant women and lactating women, the elderly, toddlers, and other people with a weak immune system. In such cases, it is advisable to avoid consumption or to ensure that the sprouts undergo heating, which reduces the risk of the presence of the same bacteria.
